Wimberley 4th of July Parade

On
Monday, July 5th, staff and board members of the Food Bank drove the
van and a small float in the parade in Wimberley. Each year,
Independence Day is celebrated with a festive and patriotic display that
the entire town turns out to see. Thousands of people line the streets,
cheer for each entry, and wave flags. Kids scramble for candy and
treats thrown from the floats. It is a heartwarming display of
patriotism and community.
The Food Bank participates in one
parade a year in each town that we support: Kyle Music Festival in
October, Budafest in December, Cinco de Mayo in San Marcos in May, and
4th of July in Wimberley. It's a great way to get involved and let
folks know that we are part of their community.
The Food Bank
has partnered with the local food pantry in Wimberley, the Crisis
Breadbasket, for many years to help feed hungry people there. About one
quarter of the food given out by the Breadbasket each Tuesday and
Thursday comes from us.
We appreciate the all the folks at the
Wimberley Chamber of Commerce who work so hard to make the parade such a
success. Thanks also to the volunteers at the Crisis Breadbasket who
make their community a better place by helping people put food on the
table in this tough economy. Thanks to board members Kirk Sedberry, Kathy Luckett, Joel Williams and his wife Sherry, and Ted Gomez for joining Pat Tessaro in the parade.
