The Food Bank Says Goodbye to Four Good Friends

After two and a half years of hard work and dedication, our awesome Assistant Operations Manager, Al Scott, officially retired from the food bank the first week of January. We genuinely appreciate Al’s commitment and enthusiasm, his passion for keeping the food bank squeaky clean, and for training and overseeing numerous volunteers.  It will be impossible to forget Al’s unique sense of humor and strong work ethic.  He promised that he will be back to volunteer, and we warned him to expect a phone call when we need a van driver!  Best wishes to Al.

The friendly face that most people see first when they come to the food bank will also soon be gone.  Heather Giles Frazier started out as the Administrative Assistant about a year and a half ago.  After taking on numerous other duties, like helping with public distributions, handling partner agency and special requests, coordinating turkey box orders, and volunteer orientation, Heather’s willingness to help earned her the title of Client Services Coordinator.   Heather is starting a new adventure as a stay-at-home mom while she finishes her college degree.   Best of luck to Heather.   We will miss her cheerful smile and team spirit.

After eight years as one of the most generous, insightful, and proactive board members in HCFB history, Jane Hughson's second term is over.  The food bank is forever indebted to her for the time she devoted and the things she helped make happen.  She served on the communications and facilities committees, helped with the newsletter, got desks and other equipment donated, helped review and edit policies and procedures ... the list goes on and on.  Up until recently, she probably would always be remembered for dressing in full turkey regalia for the San Marcos City Council Turkeys Tackling Hunger proclamations, but she ended her reign with a truly unforgettable accomplishment, by helping persuade Mayor Daniel Guerrero to don the turkey costume at the Ozona Bank Turkeys Tackling Hunger 2011 kick-off.  Thanks a zillion!

Another bright star who has served on the Board of Directors for seven years is also leaving us. Jane Kirkham, aka “the other Jane” and the beloved Hays CISD turkey, will always be remembered for her passion and dedication to rounding up support from schools, businesses, and individuals in the greater Kyle-Buda area, especially during Turkeys Tackling Hunger.  She will go down in the HCFB hall of fame for her unwavering willingness to shake her tail feathers at numerous school assemblies, Founders’ Day parades, and Kyle City Council chambers.  Both of the Janes leave a hole too deep to ever fill.
