FAQ and Fact Sheet

The Mission

Our mission is to feed hungry people in Hays County, Texas

The Hays County Food Bank functions as both a food pantry that distributes food at our public distribution sites Monday – Friday and as a food bank that serves the clients of our partner agencies at no charge.

Partner agencies include local social service agencies, churches, schools, home health service providers, local shelters, and various other organizations that work with low-income residents in our area.

Service Area

The Food Bank helps hungry people in Hays County, Texas and those living within the boundaries of the San Marcos and Hays Consolidated Independent School Districts.

Numbers Served

In 2007, the agency distributed food to individuals an average of 6,943 times a month.  In 2009, that number climbed to 10,100 times a month, an increase of 44%.

We helped 6,537 people at Thanksgiving last year with a holiday meal including a turkey and all the trimmings

Community Impact

In 2009, the Food Bank distributed more than $1,157,000 of food throughout our service area in Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Wimberley and outlying areas. Of this total, over $454,000 was passed along at no charge to our partner agencies who work with low-income people in Hays County. Without the Food Bank, this valuable community resource would have been lost to people in need.

To raise money for turkey boxes, we conduct an annual Turkeys Tackling Hunger campaign in October and November. To learn more and donate online, click here.
