Purpose The Hays County Area Food Bank functions as both a food pantry that distributes food at our public distribution sites Monday – Friday and as a food bank that passes food along at no charge to our partner agencies for their clients. Partner agencies include local social service agencies, churches, schools, the San Marcos Housing Authority, home health service providers, local shelters, and various other organizations that work with low-income residents in our area. In 2007, we passed along over $300,000 worth of food to over 60 partner agencies at no charge. Service Area The Food Bank service area includes all of Hays County, Texas and citizens living within the boundaries of the San Marcos and Hays Consolidated Independent School Districts. Numbers Served In 2007, we helped an average of 2730 families a month. (These are duplicated numbers because we count a person each time they are given food.) Client Profile Food recipients include the elderly living on fixed incomes, low income working families, persons with medical or physical disabilities, the transient and homeless, and those who are experiencing a temporary need due to an illness, injury, or loss of a job.
Community Impact In 2007, the Food Bank gave out over $750,000 of food throught our service area.. Of this total, over $300,000 was passed along at no charge to our partner agencies who work with low-income people throughout Hays Coun ty. Without the Food Bank, this valuable community resource would have been lost to people in need. Thanksgiving Turkey Boxes Each November, low-income families throughout Hays County receive a 10 – 12 lb.
